How to Order Decorative Grilles For Cabinet Doors

We received an e-mail request  asking if “we can make our decorative grilles for cabinet doors in custom sizes in our Craftsman Style” for a law office.

We replied that we currently make 65 different sizes of our Craftsman Style grille from the Arts & Crafts Period, and asked if he “could e-mail us some information on the project, including measurements of his existing cabinet doors.

He sent us a prompt response.  “I have cabinet doors that are notched in the back 17.75” x 25”.  There are four cabinet doors, all the same size installed from the back. Pictures attached.” ……..JW

After a quick review of our grilles, we realized that our Craftsman Style Arts and Crafts Grille RR-209 16×24 was almost perfect. The next day we sent the following e-mail.

Attached is a spec sheet for our Craftsman Style grille, RR-209 16×24. The full size in it’s vertical orientation is 18” wide x 26” tall. We could easily and symmetrically trim the size down to 17-3/4” x 25” so it would easily fit right into the notch on the back of your cabinet doors.

We charge $20 to custom trim our cabinet door grilles for grilles installed from the back.

Our decorative grilles are 70% see through.

1. Do you want to look through them to see what is behind?  For items you wish to display,  the cabinet grilles can be installed with glass behind it or left open.
2. Do you want to filter it with black mesh to see what is behind?  If yes, please let us know and we will attach the mesh to the back of your grille for an additional charge per the size of your grille $10-$15.
3. Do you want to block the view of what is in your cabinet?  Mirror, Foam Core, 1/8″ painted masonite are all appropriate to use to block the view into the cabinet.

In this particular installation, the client left it up to the carpenter who chose to use high quality black foam core.
