Measuring for your new decorative grille:
To find the right Beaux-Arts grille to cover your duct or opening you'll need to measure. Before you begin, we'd recommend gathering a few supplies...
- Screwdriver or drill to remove your existing vent cover
- Tape measure to measure your duct or opening height and width
- Paper & pen to write down your measurement and refer to while ordering
- Camera nearby in case you aren't sure and want to send us a photo of your duct or opening ( preferable with a tape measure visible in the picture)
We list our grilles by height x width of your duct or opening measurement not by the total size of the vent you'd like to order. Order by duct size and the total measurement of the grille will be 2" larger per side to allow room for installation.
Tips: Ducts tend to be irregular while grilles are sold in even increments... If you measure a duct to be 5-7/8″ x 12-3/4″, round the fractional number to the next even whole number- for example: 6″ x 12″.
If your duct measures 7″ x 14″, you must determine if it will fit best with a grille made to fit a 6″ x 14″ duct or an 8″ x 14″ duct. Determine which size works best by the overall duct size and the proximity of any wall or baseboard molding which limits the size of the grille.
Measuring for a return air filter grille:
Order by the filter size you use... if you use 20x20x1 filters in your air return, you would purchase a 20x20 Magnetic Return Air Filter Grille in the pattern and finish of your choice.
