Decorative Recessed Lighting Buying Guide
Decorative Recessed Lighting Buying Guide will assist you in choosing the right Beaux-Arts trim for your recessed lighting.
Beaux-Arts was the first company to design a decorative option to the industrial recessed lighting trim and was awarded the Best New Lighting Product in 2005. Prior to our innovative decorative trim option for 6″ recessed lighting this is what was available in the marketplace.
Our solution merely replaced the plastic trim that came with all 6″ recessed lights. Our Two-Minute Makeover for recessed lights shows how easy it is to transform an industrial looking recessed light to an attractive light source. Since we began in 2002 a lot has changed. Today recessed lighting is available in 7-3/4″, 6-3/4″, 6″, 5″, 4″, 3-3/4″ and 3″ sizes. We offer decorative trim options to fit all major manufacturers of recessed lighting. Thanks to technology we have been able to scan the beautiful historic ornament that we use for our Victorian Recessed Light Trim and make trims to fit all the sizes of recessed light trims that are available today. The picture below shows the three sizes of Lightolier cans and our three Victorian recessed lighting trims.
We also offer these styles of decorative trims for recessed lights. All of our recessed lighting products are available in 14 beautiful finishes.
To order a decorative trim to replace your industrial trim, generally just measure the inside diameter of your recessed light. Because of all the different sizes and idiosyncrasies of the different manufacturers of recessed lighting another way to be sure you are ordering the right decorative trim is to remove the bulb and take a digital image and email it to us.
Another innovation for recessed lighting are LED bulbs.
Prior to LED bulbs we suggested the best looking incandescent light bulb was the quartz halogen flood lamp. One of our complaints about recessed lights was being able to look up and see where the bulb screws into its socket. The flood lamp fits the canisters and gives a nice look to the recessed light.
This Decorative Recessed Lighting Buying Guide will also help you select which LED retrofits work with our decorative options. LED retrofits are a one piece combination bulb, baffle and trim. Halo, Commercial Electric, Juno and Nora, just to name a few, offer the LED retrofit for 4″, 5″ and 6″ recessed light canisters. Commercial Electric offers several finishes for the trims.
Here is the Halo 4″ LED retrofit before and after with our 4″ Victorian recessed light trim LR-141 $30
Our Victorian Recessed Light Trim LR-161 works with Halo LED 5″/6″ Retrofits and fits most standard and shallow recessed light housings. This Halo retrofit is rated for wet locations as are all of our decorative trims.
Other companies make their own version of an LED retrofit with a 6-3/4″ outside diameter and that fits our Victorian LR-601. Shown below with an incandescent bulb.
It is complicated but if you don’t know what you have email us a digital image and we can identify what you have. Always remove the bulb to photograph the housing.
As for whether to use an LED or stay with incandescent quartz halogen type bulbs, the long term savings for using LED’s will pay for your decorative trims in a two year period.
