Let’s talk a bit about radiator cover basics—what they do, how they work and how they are customized. Then we will talk about how decorative radiator covers come into the picture and how everything all works together.
What is a Radiator Cover?
A radiator cover is a structure placed around a radiator for the purposes of enhancing the looks and improving the heat distribution. Usually made out of wood or a combination of materials, radiator covers are also sometimes referred to as radiator cabinets.
What Do Radiator Covers Do?
Radiators are traditionally an unattractive heating element, but a necessary component for heating some homes. In an effort to make radiators more attractive, radiator covers are used to conceal the radiator, turning it into a more attractive feature and improving their ability to simultaneously heat your home.
Radiator Covers can also add more functional space to a room by providing a flat surface for placing other decorative items.
Additional Benefits of Radiator Covers
Beyond the appearance, a well-designed radiator cover can also help your radiator work more efficiently. Properly designed cabinets add convection heat power to your radiator, drawing in the coldest air from the floor area into the cabinet, to heat the air which rises and moves through the decorative return air grille.
The air that is trapped in the radiator cabinet will get hotter than it would if it didn’t have a radiator cover. Therefore, the extra heat that is produced will make the hot air rise faster than it would otherwise. The hot air rising creates a vacuum that pulls the cold air in the room from further distances. End result: a warm, comfortable room and greater system efficiency.
How are Decorative Radiator Covers Designed?
Almost all radiator covers require a custom design if you want them to fit properly and function at maximum efficiency. There are several reasons for this. There are many different sized radiators installed in homes. Plus, you have to factor in the placement of the radiator valves, the location of the surrounding walls, windows and even the door moldings, because all of these will affect the design. So, radiator covers are not a one-size-fits-all proposition.
At Beaux-Arts Classic Products, we can design a custom radiator cover to fit your radiator and outfit it with one of our stunning decorative grilles.
We’ll ask you to take a picture of your radiator and either email it or text it to us along with its dimensions. We will then ask you which style of decorative radiator cover you like the best. Then we will email you a custom design for your approval. You can use the design to get a bid from a local cabinet maker, plus we can also give you a bid from our partner radiator cabinet make-over.
Our radiator grille options come in nine different heat-tolerant finishes. The radiator cabinets themselves come in a base white color. However, you can select another color if you’d like, including a specific color to match your existing walls.
